JACK DAVID BLANKENSHIP

Boy what a dynamic man! From “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”  in Kansas to magnificent California. Jack was a Dreamer and “Go Getter”, From his days At Kansas State University to Hollywood California. Jack was a Promoter of musical groups, entertainers and an advertising executive . He managed an number of groups and personalities. He was a Friend to many people and was an “In Charge Type, a Leader. Jack knew many Hollywood people and celebrities. He was a true child of the sixties in California, when it was establishing lots of new social trends and cultures. He loved music, dancing and travel. He never met a stranger, he was friends to all. He not only enjoyed his friends, but his pets also. He loved his cat, “George” and his dog, “Charlie” Jack liked dealing in real estate and owned some properties. In some ways he was ahead of his time. He enjoyed a friendship with ‘Minnie Pearl”, aka Sarah Cannon of Nashville, Tennessee. His parents were ole time twentieth century folks and they owned an ole time beer bar, antique store and domino parlor. It was part of the history of Pratt, Kansas, his home. Perhaps in another time he might have enjoyed being in politics. He was a born politician, but never an office holder. In his final days, he and I owned a remote ranch, “Mtn High Ranch” up in the Green Mountains in Kern County, California. There were many happy times and wonderful memories there. It was on a visit to the ranch that he learned of the death of John Lennon and he was quite devastated, because of his love for his music. Jack’s last day in this world was on his was to visit our ranch. Jack was taken violently from this world along with a good friend by a homophobic man from the mountains. He and our friend were run down, shot and killed on the county mountain road to our ranch.  Jack was only thirty-eight, in his prime years. This was another senseless loss from violent people with guns. He was my friend for over twelve years. What a LOSS!
